Is a sauna blanket the same as a traditional sauna?

No. A traditional sauna heats the air in an enclosed room. A sauna blanket wraps around the body and uses infrared heat. The format and way the heat is delivered differ.

Does your head go inside a sauna blanket?

Telos Wellness describes standard sauna blanket designs as wrapping the body from the neck down, leaving the head outside the heated area.

Are sauna blankets portable?

The supplied sources describe sauna blankets as portable. Telos Wellness also describes them as foldable, in contrast with the fixed cabin format in its comparison.

How hot does a sauna blanket get?

It depends on the model. Good Housekeeping reports a 30°C to 75°C range for the CurrentBody Skin Sauna Blanket. This is a product specification, not a suggested setting or a range for all blankets.

How much does a sauna blanket cost in the UK?

The sources report different prices. For example, CurrentBody listings range from £499 in Harley Medic to £650 in Good Housekeeping. The extracts do not establish one current price or confirm that all listings cover an identical version.

Sauna blankets explained

By the zauna editorial team · Updated 2 October 2026

A sauna blanket is a portable, sleeping-bag-style sauna for use at home. It wraps around the body and uses infrared heat, rather than heating a room like a traditional sauna. Its appeal is the smaller, foldable format. Prices and specifications vary, and a blanket offers a different experience from sitting inside a sauna cabin.

What is a sauna blanket?

A sauna blanket is a personal home sauna shaped rather like a padded sleeping bag. Marie Claire describes it as a portable format that wraps around the body. Good Housekeeping uses a similar description, comparing its appearance to a thick sleeping bag rather than a room or cabin.

The distinction matters when you picture the experience. A blanket encloses the body, rather than providing an enclosed space to sit inside. Telos Wellness describes standard blanket designs as covering the body from the neck down, with the head outside the heated area.

If you want sauna equipment at home but do not want a full-sized cabin, this is the format these sources present as the portable alternative. It is still a different product, not simply a sauna room made smaller.

How does infrared heating work in a blanket?

The sources agree on the basic distinction between a traditional sauna and an infrared blanket. A traditional sauna heats the surrounding air. An infrared blanket uses infrared heat to warm the body directly. CurrentBody, Marie Claire and Good Housekeeping all describe this difference.

Telos Wellness adds a useful detail about the blanket format. Heating elements sit behind a fabric layer close to the body. Its explanation includes both radiant heat from the infrared elements and conductive heat from contact with the warm surface.

That means a blanket is not best understood as a miniature room full of hot air. The heat is delivered around the wrapped body. When you compare descriptions, keep the heating method separate from the format: infrared heat is also used in cabins, not only in blankets.

How does a blanket compare with a sauna cabin?

Portability and space are the clearest differences. Telos Wellness describes blankets as foldable, while its cabin comparison describes a fixed installation. Good Housekeeping also presents a blanket as an option for readers without space for an outdoor sauna in the garden.

Coverage differs too. In the Telos comparison, the blanket leaves the head outside the heated area. An infrared cabin encloses the user, including the head, inside a wooden cabinet. These are different ways to experience heat, even when both products use infrared elements.

Temperature figures need care. Telos compares blanket surface temperatures with cabin air temperatures. Those are not the same measurement, so a larger number does not by itself establish which format you would prefer.

For your decision, start with the experience you want: a wraparound personal product or an enclosed cabin. Then consider whether portability is important to you.

What do the sources say about UK prices?

The supplied reviews disagree on prices, including for products from the same brand. Good Housekeeping lists the CurrentBody Skin Sauna Blanket at £650. The Independent shows a CurrentBody blanket at £550 in its top picks and £549.99 in its summary. Harley Medic lists a CurrentBody infrared blanket at £499.

There are differences elsewhere too. The Independent lists the Heat Healer sauna blanket at £310, while Harley Medic lists a Heat Healer infrared blanket at £549. These extracts do not establish why the prices differ or whether every listing refers to an identical version.

Treat those amounts as figures reported by the individual sources, not a single confirmed current price. If you are comparing offers, distinguish the product name and version from the price. The supplied material does not support naming one blanket as the cheapest current UK option.

What should you focus on when comparing blankets?

Keep your comparison focused on the product details available. The Independent says its testing considered comfort and price. Harley Medic lists temperature, construction, materials, warranty and value among its comparison criteria. Those offer a more specific starting point than a broad promise of a sauna experience at home.

Temperature specifications belong to individual models. Good Housekeeping reports a 30°C to 75°C range for the CurrentBody Skin Sauna Blanket. That is not a range established for every sauna blanket, nor a recommended setting for you.

A useful shortlist can therefore focus on: - The wraparound format and whether you prefer it to a cabin. - Portability and foldability. - The named model's temperature specification. - Comfort, materials and construction described in the review. - The quoted price and warranty for that version.

The supplied extracts do not provide complete operating or care instructions. They support an introduction to the format, rather than a universal routine for using every blanket.
