How much does a home sauna cost in the UK?

By the zauna editorial team · Updated 7 September 2026

A home sauna in the UK can cost from £900 for a basic kit to more than £40,000 for a bespoke cabin. Checkatrade puts indoor saunas at £3,600–£14,800 and garden saunas at £2,500–£10,000 for supply alone. Your total depends on size, specification and what the price includes. Installation and running costs need separate attention.

What does a basic home sauna cost?

Checkatrade gives a broad kit price range of £900–£17,000. Edenhut also starts budget kits at £900, with its two-person budget range reaching £2,500. These are starting points for comparing products, not a promise of a complete sauna at the lowest price.

For a small indoor infrared cabin, the Guardian reported a starting price of about £1,500 in May 2024. That example included a wooden cabin with room for one person. It is a dated price reference rather than a current supplier quote.

Traditional indoor models offer another comparison. SuperSauna lists the one-person S-LINE 100 VEDA at £1,899.05, with the required heater charged separately. Its two-person S-LINE 165 VEDA is listed at £2,659.05, also with a heater surcharge. Check what is included before you compare either listing with a kit that already contains a heater.

How much are indoor and garden saunas?

The published guides do not agree on a single indoor price range. Checkatrade gives £3,600–£14,800, while Edenhut quotes £3,600–£12,000 for an indoor installation. Neither range should replace a quote for your chosen specification. Checkatrade’s cost tables are marked May 2024; Edenhut’s guide is dated October 2025.

For a garden sauna, Checkatrade separates supply from installation. Its outdoor supply range is £2,500–£10,000, with outdoor installation listed separately at £2,000–£10,000. Edenhut instead gives a headline outdoor range of £3,000–£8,000. Those figures are not presented on the same basis, so avoid treating them as interchangeable totals.

Supplier listings help make the comparison more concrete. Summerhouse24 lists its Small Barrel Sauna at £4,700, Modern Small Barrel Sauna at £4,825 and Large Barrel Sauna at £5,775. These are listed product prices. The supplied listings do not establish a complete installed cost.

What should you budget for installation and a heater?

Checkatrade lists general home sauna installation at £1,850–£2,467, with an average of £2,160. Edenhut gives a lower starting point for kit installation, at £300–£2,160. The sources differ, and neither range establishes what your particular project will cost.

Edenhut identifies labour, electrical work and foundations as parts of a sauna budget. Its kit description excludes electrical work and foundations from the package. Ask for these costs to be identified in your quote, and use a qualified electrician.

A heater can also be a separate purchase, as the SuperSauna examples show. zauna’s checked UK starting prices include: - HUUM DROP Electric Sauna Heater, 4.5 kW: £429.99. - Narvi NC Domestic Electric Sauna Heater (Wi-Fi), 6 kW: £899.99. - PYRY Electric Sauna Heater by Tulikivi, 4.5 kW: £1,424.99.

These are heater prices, not complete sauna prices or installed totals. Compare packages with the heater clearly identified as included or extra.

How much does a bespoke sauna cost?

Checkatrade gives £7,500–£12,000 for a custom sauna. Edenhut divides custom projects into wider bands: £4,000–£7,000 for basic builds, £7,000–£12,000 for mid-range builds and £12,000–£30,000 or more for luxury builds. The Guardian reports that a bespoke cabin can exceed £40,000, including the chosen heating method.

These sources disagree on the useful price range for a custom sauna. They also describe different specifications. A simple layout is not the same purchase as a cabin with bespoke dimensions, multiple rooms and architectural integration.

Edenhut identifies capacity, timber choices, glazing, lighting and additional rooms as features across its price bands. If you are comparing bespoke quotes, keep those choices consistent. Otherwise, a lower figure may describe a smaller or simpler project rather than a cheaper version of the same sauna.

How much does a home sauna cost to run?

Palmako estimates £2.24 for a traditional electric sauna using a 6 kW heater, a 30-minute warm-up and a one-hour session. Its calculation uses 9 kWh of electricity at 24.86p per kWh. That is an example based on a stated tariff and operating time, not a guaranteed cost for your sauna.

Its infrared example uses a 1.5 kW heater for 1.25 hours in total. At the same electricity rate, Palmako estimates £0.47. The two examples use different heater ratings and operating times, so they should not be read as a like-for-like performance comparison.

For your budget, use your own electricity unit rate and include warm-up time. Palmako’s calculation multiplies heater power in kW by operating hours, then by the price per kWh. Keep this ongoing electricity estimate separate from the purchase and installation quote.
